My fear of the future

“As he mused about these things, he realized that he had to choose between thinking of himself as the poor victim of a thief and as an adventurer in quest of his treasure...”

I am afraid of what the future holds. Here I am, in my twenties, halfway through law school, soon to take the bar in two years' time, and have a lot of worries in my mind. I'm worried whether I would actually finish this degree, worried about passing the bar, worried about my health and embarrassingly worried about my love life too. It's hard for me to accept that the next few years would be sad, stressful and full of torment until the very moment I pass the bar exams. I'm also concerned since the prospect of me turning thirty years old seems to be on the horizon too (okay, that last one was me being over-reacting again).

I know I need to finish law school and be a lawyer in order to grow, and be a better version of myself. I believe this current journey I am undertaking is essential in both my personal and professional growth. I also absolutely feel that I would deeply regret ditching law school knowing that there's not much out there for me anymore. And besides, two years in doing a Juris Doctor degree is no joke, and I literally have no choice but to go hard, or go home. But sometimes, failures, disappointments and even the slightest comparisons to how others are doing can destroy you inside. And as of the moment they are destroying me.

But I choose to fight back. I choose to push through. I choose to allow myself to experience these so that I can learn and can re-assess my strategy in winning over these obstacles. These challenges are essential in my growth from being a boy to a young man. I can't, just can't, back down on the lions that I need to kill. I am praying that in the summer of 2019, when the successful examinees of the 2018 Bar are announced, I'm there. And hopefully I could top it too just like how my sister topped the board a few years back. It's not only for me to become a lawyer, but also to move on with my life. I hope these scars are healed by that time. And may I not be Vin the boy anymore, but rather, Vin as a young man who has successfully concluded another battle.

I am afraid of what the future holds, but I will go to where it is. It might actually be a better place to be in than the rut that I am in right now.

Weekend getaway in Nagtabon, Palawan

There were many tourist destinations that I planned on going to in my first proper weekend in Palawan. After all, I'm done with one-third of my internship already, and it would be nice to travel around a bit.

I was initially planning on going to the famous Crocodile Farm in Puerto Princesa, but a cab driver recommended that I go to a place called Nagtabon instead just when I told him where I wanted to go first. He offered to take me there, down to the beach itself, and take me back to the city by the afternoon. Since I was feeling adventurous, I gladly followed his recommendation! Screw the Crocodile Farm for now, and let's go to the beach!

Here are some snapshots of my afternoon at the amazing Nagtabon Beach!

I spent the entire Sunday afternoon in the glorious beach of Nagtabon! I had so much fun exploring the rocky areas by myself, and having a swim on the beach. And boy it felt so good to finally swim after a very long time. And when I say a 'long time' I really mean it. "Sand in my feet, water all over me, and I'm all by myself - this is the life!", I thought! I also spent some time drinking soda and eating junk food in the sari-sari store in the beach. And let me tell you that drinking soda in the beach is one of the best things ever. It's completely okay for you to forget about your diet when you find yourself in such a situation.

I didn't bother taking pictures of myself because I enjoyed the beach a little too much! Oh, Palawan, I'm so excited for my next destinations after this! Nagtabon Beach, I'll be back next time!

A Tree Story

I Lava You Love STory Tree Asia Philippines Palawan Travel Puerto princesa Nature Story A Tree Story Mangrove

We spent the whole day with the Philippine Coast Guard, and I would see this tree standing alone near the shore. During breaks, I would think to myself that it was all by itself out there. That was until late in the afternoon when we decided to go see it; apparently it had a companion.
